It is a magical mountain in the Mischabelgruppe (Valais Alps) between Materral and Saastal valleys. With its altitude of 4.545 m, it is the highest mountain in Switzerland, as other higher Swiss the higher Swiss giants are located on the border with Italy.
The ascent to Dom via the Domhütte can be done without acclimatization in two days. The easier variant (normal variant) then across the Hochbarggletscher or more demanding variant along the Festigrat ridge. Ascents demanding on daily height difference (more than 1500 metres).

Dom is one of four thousand peaks, which has a beautiful downhill through the north wall on skis. The ideal date for a ski mountaineering ascent is May – June, depending on snow conditions.
